Matt MacPherson, the former assistant football coach at Kenyon College, is starting his second year as the defensive safeties coach at Eastern Michigan University.
The 28-year-old MacPherson (10-27-76) served as the defensive coordinator and linebacker coach at Kenyon College last season. Prior to that he was a graduate assistant football coach at Northwestern University from 2000-02 where he helped coach the defensive backs and linebackers.
A native of Dayton, Ohio, MacPheLeague linebacker in both 1997 and 1998. He was named DePauw’s Defensive Playerrson attended DePauw University, where he played football for four seasons and received a bachelor’s degree in health and physical performance in 1999. During his football career at DePauw, MacPherson was a four-year letterman and three-year starter at linebacker. He was selected as a third-team All-American in 1998 by Football Gazette and was a first-team All- of the Year in 1998, and went on to be selected to the school’s All-Century Team.
Following his graduation, MacPherson remained at his alma mater as a graduate assistant/recruiting coordinator and worked as the running backs coach and the junior varsity offensive coordinator.
MacPherson is married to Pamela (Gottfred) and they have a son, Thomas Matthew (3-12-05).
