Jimmy Verdon Jr. is in his second season as a graduate assistant coach for the Eastern Michigan University football team.
Verdon joins the EMU staff after serving as a graduate assistant at the University of Louisville in 2009, helping coach the linebackers and working with the strength and conditioning program.
The 28-year-old Verdon is a 2004 graduate of Arizona State University he was a second-team All-PAC 10 performer for the Sun Devils in 2004 and an honorable mention All-League performer in 2002. He was a co-captain of the 2004 ASU squad. He was the MVP of the defense and the defensive line in 2004. He earned four varsity football letters.
Verdon was a seventh-round draft choice of the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League in 2005 and was with the Saints in 2005-06, the Cincinnati Bengals in 2007 and was a member of the Saskatchewan Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League in 2008.
A native of Pomona, Calif., Verdon was named first-team All-State and was an honorable mention All-American as a football player. He also lettered in basketball and track at Pomona High School.
Verdon and his wife, Frances, have three sons, Malik, Gabe and Trey, and a daughter, Cecelia.
