Kurt Anderson, a former graduate assistant at the University of Michigan, is starting his first year as the tight ends coach at EMU.
While on the Michigan football staff, Anderson spent the 2007 season as a graduate assistant coach for the offensive line, working with line coach Andy Moeller, now with the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL. Anderson helped develop All-American offensive tackle Jake Long and All-Big Ten offensive lineman Adam Kraus. In 2006, Anderson was a defensive quality control graduate assistant and worked with defensive line coach Steve Stripling. While on that side of the football, Anderson helped develop current NFL players Lamar Woodley and Alan Branch.
Prior to his stint at Michigan, Anderson was an assistant coach at Indiana State where he worked with the offensive tackles and tight ends.
The 29-year-old Anderson graduated from the University of Michigan in 2001 with a degree in sport management and communication from the Division of Kinesiology. He was a two-year letterman along the offensive line (1997-01) for the Wolverines and started as an offensive center. He received the Hugh R. Rader Jr. Memorial Award as the team’s top offensive lineman and was selected All-Big Ten honorable mention selection by the conference coaches following the 2001 season. He is the brother of former Wolverine All-American and Butkus Award winning linebacker Erick Anderson.
Following graduation, Anderson was a rookie free agent with the Arizona Cardinals in 2002.
Anderson and his wife, Jennifer (Costales), reside in Ypsilanti with their son, Hawken.
