Del Young
  • Title:
    Assistant Coach
The 2008 season marks Del Young’s fourth season as an assistant coach for the EMU baseball program. He helped guide the team to a 21-4 Mid-American Conference mark and the MAC regular season title in 2007.

A 2004 graduate of Northwood University, Young was a two-year baseball letterwinner for the Timberwolves where he played for head coach Joe DiBenedetto after playing his first two seasons at St. Clair County Community College. He was a co-captain for the Timberwolves during his senior season.

While working with the infielders and hitters, he has helped improve the fielding percentage as well as an increase in put-outs and a decrease in errors. Offensively, Eagle hitters have improved in three major offensive categories: triples, home runs and total bases. The Green and White went from 28 home runs in 2006 to 48 in 2007. In 2005 and 2006, the Eagles combined for 10 triples while in 2007 they nearly tripled that mark, registering 17. In his three-year tenure, Young has coached four players that have signed contracts to play professionally, including former MAC Pitcher of the Year Jeff Fischer and CoSIDa Academic All-American Jeff Hehr who were both drafted in 2007.

The 26-year-old Young (9-30-81) is a native of Bad Axe, Mich. and played at Bad Axe High School. He earned a bachelor’s of business administration degree in Management from Northwood University in 2004 and completed his master’s degree in Sport Management from Eastern Michigan University in 2006. Young and his wife, Jenni, reside in Ypsilanti, Mich. Young also is the nephew of Oakland Athletics Major League pitching coach Curt Young.
