Kleats 4 Kids: Eastern Michigan University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has been partnering with K4K since 2015. This is the fourth year we have collected cleats and athletic footwear. SAAC sets up donation sites and sends out flyers in several of the on-campus buildings. Collection runs from November through January. In February at our monthly meeting, all the shoes are cleaned, sorted and tagged with the help of Ryan Luft and his mother Sue Luft. Our own student-athletes donate a lot of their own shoes as well, due to the nature of it being athletic wear driven. The entire collection drive is coordinated directly through SAAC. To date, EMU SAAC has collected roughly 1100 shoes to donate to the cause.
Second and Seven Reading Program: Eastern Michigan University has been partnering with the Second and Seven National Reading Program for many years now. Throughout the year, mostly on Fridays, many student-athletes donate their time to the local Ypsilanti elementary schools to read to second graders.
Swoops Food Pantry: EMU Athletics and SAAC work with Swoops Food Pantry to set up local food drives at athletic events. Many of these events take place near the holidays to help those in need.
Habitat for Humanity: Many of our teams work with Habitat for Humanity in the summers.

The YPSI's: The Eastern Michigan University Athletic Department & Student-Athlete Advisory Committee presents Annual YPSI Awards. The awards show honors the top athletic, academic, and citizenship achievements by EMU student-athletes during the academic year. Formerly known as the Scholar Athlete banquet, The Ypsi Awards feature a "green carpet" entrance in the Convocation Center and a Hollywood-style production. Over 15 awards are given out to our highest achieving student-athletes and teams. EMU athletic teams & coaches nominate student-athletes for each category. Then, the lists are narrowed down to finalists by the YPSI Administrative & Executive Committees. The semi-finalists are then sent out to for a crowning vote by the SAAC representatives and their team members. The YPSI Awards serve as the culminating awards banquet for the entire season.
