Martin earned a minicamp invitation following the 2026 NFL Draft
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Former Eastern Michigan University defensive lineman Tyrell Martin (Newark, Del./St. Georges Tech/Delaware State) received an NFL minicamp invitation following the NFL Draft. Martin will travel to Foxborough, Mass. for an opportunity with the New England Patriots. Since 2015, Eastern football has had six players drafted and 36 more sign free agent or minicamp deals.
Martin spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons with the Eagles and developed into a key contributor along the defensive front. In 2025, he started all 12 games and totaled 44 tackles, including 4.0 tackles for loss, while adding a sack and a quarterback hurry. He recorded a season-high eight tackles on the road at Central Michigan and posted his sack at Miami (Ohio).
He produced steady numbers throughout the season. He opened the year with seven tackles against LIU and added seven more against Bowling Green. He closed the season with six tackles against Western Michigan and recorded at least four tackles in six games. His presence helped stabilize the interior defense across conference play.
In 2024, Martin appeared in all 12 games with three starts. He finished with 16 tackles, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries, and a fumble recovery against Toledo.
Prior to EMU, Martin began his career at Delaware State University. He competed in track and field and won four MEAC shot put titles while earning All-MEAC honors four times. He joined the football team in 2023 and started all 11 games, recording 30 tackles and 5.0 sacks.
