YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Athletics announced two promotions within the sports medicine department, recognizing the work and leadership of athletic trainers MacKenzie Meyer and Marc Malek. Meyer earned promotion to Senior Associate Athletic Trainer, while Malek advanced to Associate Athletic Trainer.

"I am thrilled to announce the promotions of MacKenzie and Marc," said Gretchen Fox, EMU Senior Associate Athletics Director for Health and Well-Being. "They each bring a wealth of sports medicine knowledge and experience, and have made an immediate impact on our department and have elevated the level of healthcare to our student-athletes. I can't think of two more deserving people for these promotions."

Meyer joined Eastern Michigan in July 2025 as an Associate Athletic Trainer and works as the athletic trainer for the gymnastics program. A native of East Lansing, Mich., Meyer graduated from The Pennington School in Pennington, N.J., in 2013 before attending Michigan State University. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Michigan State in 2017 and completed a Master of Science in Athletic Training with a specialization in sports medicine at Indiana University in 2019.

Meyer began her career as a student intern at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex during the summer of 2016. From 2017 to 2019, she served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Indiana University, working with the women's tennis and cheerleading programs. During her time with the cheerleading team, Indiana captured the UCA National Championship in 2019.

Following graduate school, Meyer worked as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of the Cumberlands from 2019 to 2021. She provided care for men's lacrosse, swimming and diving, and bowling. Meyer also served as an adjunct professor, teaching courses in anatomy and physiology and first aid. She later joined Ball State University from 2021 to 2022, working with the softball and field hockey programs, before spending three seasons at the University of Detroit Mercy from 2022 to 2025 as the assistant athletic trainer for men's soccer.

Malek joined Eastern Michigan in November 2024 and earned promotion from assistant athletic trainer to Associate Athletic Trainer. He serves as the athletic trainer for the Eagles' rowing program.

Prior to arriving in Ypsilanti, Malek gained experience across collegiate and professional sports settings. He served as head athletic trainer at Madonna University and also worked with Michigan Stars FC.
