EMU Student-Athletes Post Record-Breaking Semester in the Classroom

All of EMU's teams finished with a 3.30+ GPA for the semester for the first time ever
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University Athletic Department celebrated a highly successful semester in the classroom during the Fall 2025 semester as nearly 89 percent of all student-athletes on campus recorded a 3.0 or higher grade-point average (GPA) to spark numerous records and program firsts. For the sixth consecutive semester, the Eagles posted a record 3.504 for the fall term, raising the department's cumulative GPA to 3.539.
The numbers tallied marked the first time in department history that all 17 of EMU's teams hold a term and cumulative GPA above a 3.0. Additionally, it marked the first time every team finished with a term GPA of 3.3 or higher, and the first time all teams posted a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better. Overall, their efforts raised the department's record term GPA by 0.039 (from 3.465 in May 2025) and the cumulative record by 0.067 (from 3.472).
"I'm incredibly proud of the academic performance of our student-athletes," said Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee. "This success reflects highly committed and hard-working student-athletes and our department's dedication to academic excellence. I'm especially appreciative of our coaching staff who recruit strong students and create team cultures that value academic success, as well as our outstanding professors and Student-Athlete Support Services staff members who are on the front lines in providing a first-class education."
Overall, there were 83 EMU student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs last semester, led by lacrosse, which had 14. Additionally, at least one student-athlete on each of the department's 17 teams recorded a 4.00 for the semester. Furthermore, 88.4 percent (414 of 468) of EMU student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher for the semester, while 87.8 percent (411 of 468) currently maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Lacrosse, which posted the highest GPA among all NCAA Division I lacrosse programs in each of the past two seasons, led the way with a team-record 3.817 GPA, surpassing its previous best of 3.796, recorded in May 2025. Lacrosse was one of six teams to post program-best GPAs, along with baseball (3.609), men's cross country (3.605), rowing (3.576), football (3.328), and men's basketball (3.323).
Overall, lacrosse posted the highest GPA among women's teams, with gymnastics (3.769), soccer (3.742), volleyball (3.742), and golf (3.667) rounding out the top five. Baseball led the charge among men's teams, followed by men's cross country, golf (3.478), track and field (3.390), and football.
