Eagles fell on home field for first time since 2023

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University soccer team dropped its season opener to the Big 12 Conference's University of Cincinnati at Scicluna Field, Aug. 14.
 
Eastern's 4-0 loss Thursday marks its first defeat at home since Oct. 26, 2023, against Miami University after EMU went an undefeated 5-0-3 at Scicluna Field in 2024.
 
How It Happened
Cincinnati struck first with a penalty kick goal in the 11th minute as UC took a 1-0 lead into halftime, despite Eastern's 6-2 advantage in corner kicks through 45 minutes.
 
The Bearcats used three goals in a 9:55 span in the second half to take a 4-0 lead through 66 minutes and take complete control of the match.

» Eastern dropped to 0-1-0 overall while Cincinnati is 1-0-0.
» UC held a 19-6 advantage in shots while EMU held a 10-7 edge in corner kicks.
» Senior Meghan Heath (Medina, Ohio/Medina/Canisius) and junior Sarah Van Euwen (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) each played all 90 minutes.
» Heath; sophomores Ciara Brown (Wyandanch, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West/Auburn), Aniyah Mack (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills/Austin Peay), Maya Marolly (Montreal, Québec/Ecole Secondarie Des Sources); and freshmen Kate Cerveny (Elizabeth City, N.C./Northeast Academy for Aerospace and Advanced Technologies), Abby Parsons (Villa Hills, Ky./Dixie Heights), Kaylee Synk (North Olmested, Ohio/Saint Joseph Academy), and Meredith Werner (Broadview Heights, Ohio/North Royalton) all made their Eastern debuts.
» Werner made her first career start in her first collegiate match while Brown recorded a team-high three shots.
 
Historical Notes
» Cincinnati leads the all-time series, 2-0-0.
» Eastern opened its season at home for the seventh consecutive season, an active streak topped only by the University of Memphis (11), Florida Atlantic University (10), and Dartmouth College (9).
» EMU entered Thursday with a two-match winning streak (T-6 in the nation) and three-match clean sheet streak (T-4 in the nation), both of which ended with Thursday's result.
» The Eagles' Power Four matchup against the Bearcats was their first Power Four match since Sept. 1, 2022, against Syracuse University.
