GREENWOOD, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Five Eastern Michigan University Baseball student-athletes earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District distinction, the organization announced Tuesday, June 3.
Drew Norris (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley/Utah/Johnson C.C.), Logan Hugo (Essexville, Mich./Essexville Garber), Tyler Kapa (Waterford, Mich./Kettering/Alma/Mott C.C./Davenport), Brendan Kleiman (Olney, Md./Sherwood/Frederick C.C.), and Drew Beckner (Westerville, Ohio/Big Walnut/Charleston) earned the honor.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Baseball Teams, selected by CSC, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. In order to receive the award, student-athletes were required to post a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA while competing in 90% of the team's contest. For pitchers, they must have totaled at least 17 appearances or 25 innings pitched.
Norris spearheaded the Eagles on the list GPA wise as he sports a 3.91 in his general business major. Ranking second and collecting his second consecutive CSC Academic All-District nod is Hugo, who holds a 3.89 career GPA as a finance major and is coming off a career season where he earned All-MAC Second Team distinction. Kapa made the list after leading the MAC in strikeouts this season with 90 as he holds a 3.88 GPA in an individualized studies program. Kleiman made the cut for the first time in his NCAA Division I career with a 3.72 GPA as a communication major. Beckner also garnered the accolade after a season that saw him earn All-MAC Second Team and All-MAC Tournament Team honors as he ended his collegiate tenure with a 3.69 GPA in an individualized studies program.
Overall, the five honors bring EMU baseball's total to 26 all-time as 21 different student-athletes have earned the prestigious award since 2002. Moreover, Hugo became the fourth player in program history to earn the honor twice in his career as he joins an exclusive list that includes Zachary Owings (2018-19), Brennan Williams (2016-17), and John Rubino (2014-15).
