The Eagles are returning to the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2018
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team fell in the season-finale to Mid-American Conference opponent Kent State University, 13-2, at Oestrike Stadium Saturday, May 17.
Despite falling, the Eagles clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament at the six seed as Central Michigan's loss to Toledo punched their ticket to the playoffs.
How it Happened
Starting pitcher Emmett Gillies (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) and Eastern Michigan's defense got off to a hot start, securing three quick outs, allowing only one runner on base in the opening inning. A first-inning home run from catcher Harrison Travis (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Soddy Daisy) put the Eagles up 1-0 to close the first inning.
The Golden Flashes responded quickly with a home run to center field to tie up the game 1-1 in the ensuing half inning.
Kent State scored 12 more runs from the third through the seventh inning as nine different EMU pitchers saw action on the mound.
EMU scored one last run on a Brendan Kleiman (Olney, Md./Sherwood/Frederick C.C.) RBI-single down the left-field line, scoring Drew Jones (Cleveland, Ohio/Brush) who reached via a double. The RBI made the score 13-2, which stood as the final.
Game Notes
» The Eagles' record dropped to 20-29 (12-18 MAC) while Kent State's improved to 37-16 (23-7 MAC).
