Eagles end three-opponent losing streak on senior night

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -
The Eastern Michigan University Gymnastics team defeated Ball State University, 195.475-194.550, Friday, March 14, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center.

The victory snaps a streak of dropping meets to three consecutive opponents. The Eagles improve to 6-8 on the season.

As a team the Eagles had six personal bests, one in vault, three on bars, one on beam and two on floor.

How It Happened
Overall, Eastern Michigan was led by Raisa Boris (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center), who had a 39.150. Right behind her was Kyrie Lowe (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) who had a 38.375. Boris' score was good enough for the best all-around score in the meet. Boris has won all-around six times this season.

Eastern Michigan started the meet off with vault. Boris finished fifth with 9.750 to lead the Eagles. Abby Brushwood (State College, PA./State College Area), Gwendelyn Cantu (Joliet, Ill./Providence Catholic), and Alana Fisher (Athens, Ala./Alabama Connections Academy) tied for sixth with 9.725. They finished the event with a 48.600.

After vault EMU performed on the uneven bars. They were led by Kyrie Lowe (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) who had a personal best of 9.900 to win the individual score for the meet. It is her fourth uneven bars triumph this season. Keeley Kohler (Davison, Mich./Powers Catholic) was right behind her who also had a personal best of 9.850. Boris came in third place scoring a 9.825. The Eagles scored 48.900 overall for the event.

On the balance beam, Eastern Michigan was led by Fisher, who had an event best 9.875. The total matches her career-high and it is her second consecutive victory on the beam. Boris finished second with 9.825. Katin Childress (Prosper, Texas/Prosper) and Ella Chemotti (Canton, Mich./Canton) tied for third with 9.800. EMU finished the event with a 49.075.

The meet concluded with the Green and White on floor. In this event, the Eagles were led by Brushwood and Fisher with a 9.825. Brushwood's 9.825 yielded her third floor win of the season as she has scored 9.800 or higher in eight-straight meets on floor. Fisher earned her first floor win of the season. They helped the Eagles get a total of 48.900.
