DAYTON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Carlos Hart and Addison Patterson each scored 18 points for the Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team in a narrow 70-64 non-conference loss at Wright State University Monday, Dec. 22, inside the Nutter Center.
The game, which was tied at 62-62 with 1:55 remaining, featured 14 ties, 14 lead changes, and saw the teams separated by more than four points for just 36 seconds in the game's first 34:37.
Patterson (Mississauga, Ontario/Bella Vista/Northwestern State) scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half, while Hart (Miami, Fla./North Miami/Valdosta State) had 16 of his 18 points in the second half.
Mohammad Habhab (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn/Central Michigan) added 13 points and seven rebounds, and Mak Manciel (Detroit, Mich./Stevenson/Detroit Mercy) added nine points via three triples.
How It Happened
A tight first half saw the teams trade leads eight times. Neither team led by more than three until Habhab's lay-up at the 4:13 mark pushed Eastern's edge to 27-23.
The Raiders closed the first half with an 11-6 spurt to lead, 34-33, at halftime.
The second half mirrored the first half as neither team gained an advantage of more than three for nearly 14 minutes. Wright State led by six at 56-50 for just 21 seconds before Hart answered with a three-point play.
WSU pushed its lead to seven with 4:58 left but Eastern tied the game at 62-62 with a 9-2 run. The Raiders scored the next four points to lead 66-62 with 1:15 to go.
A pair of Hart free throws at the 1:14 mark brought EMU to within two as Eastern saw a potential go-ahead three-point attempt clank off the rim with just 37 ticks remaining. The hosts put in the ensuing free throws after securing the rebound to take control of the contest.
