Belcher Posts Third-Straight Double-Double in Loss to Buffalo

Senior setter posted 20 assists, 13 digs
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Senior setter Ashlynn Belcher notched her third consecutive double-double with 20 assists and 13 digs, as the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team dropped a three-set match to the University at Buffalo Thursday, Oct. 23, at the George Gervin GameAbove Center.
Eastern, led by seven kills from junior outside hitter Ava Siefke (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy), had six players with at least four kills.
Siefke tallied 13 digs along with Belcher, while senior setter Ella Voorhees (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown/Southern Miss.) added 11 digs.
How it Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles fell behind early, losing the first set, 25-20. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as seven points as Buffalo grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Bulls took control.
Eastern, led by seven kills from junior outside hitter Ava Siefke (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy), had six players with at least four kills.
Siefke tallied 13 digs along with Belcher, while senior setter Ella Voorhees (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown/Southern Miss.) added 11 digs.
How it Happened

SET 2 | Eastern Michigan lost set two, 25-20, digging a 2-0 deficit in the match. The Eagles trailed by as many as six points as Buffalo never trailed after taking a 3-2 lead.
SET 3 | EMU fell in a tough set, 25-17, despite posting its best hitting percentage of any set at .182. Eastern trailed by as many as eight points as Buffalo at 17-16 in a set that was tied up nine times before the Bulls took over in the second half of the set.
Match Notes
» Eastern's record shifted to 10-13 (2-8 MAC) while Buffalo's improved to 7-12 (4-6 MAC).
» Ava Siefke's 13 digs mark her 10th match with double-figure digs this season and her 29th time doing so in her career.
» Ashlynn Belcher produced her eighth double-double of the season with 20 assists and 13 digs. Her 20 dimes led the team and the match, marking the 22nd time she has led the team this season. Thursday's contest was her seventh match with 10+ digs, elevating her career total to 21 matches with double-digit digs.
» After her 20-assists, 13-digs double-double in Thursday night's contest, Ashlynn Belcher has notched three-straight double-doubles for the first time in her career.
» Anna Guard (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry District) recorded five kills while matching her season high with three total blocks, including her second block solo of the season.
» Ella Voorhees recorded her sixth match with at least 10 digs, doing so for the 15th time in her career.
» Hatteras Welker (Sunbury, Ohio/Sunbury) posted one service ace, marking her fifth-straight match with at least one ace. Welker has at least one ace in 18-of-23 matches this season. Welker's 18 matches with at least one ace are tied for the fourth-highest mark in the nation, are the most in the MAC, and are the most of any middle in the country.
» Sophomore setter Taylor Smith (Pewamo, Mich./Pewamo-Westphalia) added a season-high two kills.
Historical Notes
» The match marked the 34th between the Eagles and Bulls. Overall, Eastern holds a 22-12 mark against Buffalo and a 10-6 mark when facing it in Ypsilanti.
