– The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fell in a three-set affair to the University of Michigan Wednesday evening, Sept. 4, inside the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.

How it Happened
SET ONE | The Eagles struck first with a kill from Ava Siefke (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy). The set went back-and-forth before the Wolverines pulled away with an 8-4 edge. Eastern would climb back within four points of the Wolverines, 13-9. Michigan emerged victorious in the set, 25-13.

SET TWO | Michigan scored the first points of the set, with the Eagles immediately answering via a Kaili Doctor (Mars, Pa./Pine-Richland/North Carolina A&T State) kill. Eastern scored consecutive points, trimming the Wolverines' lead to seven at 15-8. Kendal Bonney (Pioneer, Ohio/North Central) ended the second set as a bright spot, totaling five kills on a .556 percentage. Set two ended with the same result as the first, with Michigan winning 25-13.

SET THREE | Eastern Michigan couldn't prolong the match and lost in set three. The Eagles came up short by the score of 25-20. Eastern trailed by as many as eight points as Michigan grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up two times before the Wolverines took over the lead.

Match Notes
» Reigning Michigan Miss Volleyball Taylor Smith (Pewamo, Mich./Pewamo-Westphalia) saw the first action of her collegiate career, finishing the contest with one dig. Joining Smith was Mackenzie Gross (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven), who earned her first action of the season.
» Ella Voorhees (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown/Southern Miss.) recorded 14 assists, marking her fourth time eclipsing the double-digit mark in the season, and 18th of her career. Voorhees has led the Eagles in assists every match this season, and finished Wednesday's match as the team's digs leader with eight for her first time leading the Eagles in both assists and digs.
» Doctor and Bonney each led the squad in kills with eight. The occurrence marks each Eagles' second respective time leading the team in kills this season.
» Eastern and Michigan each had four blocks in the contest. This marks the second time in the Head Coach Kevin Foeman era that the Eagles have tied their opponent in blocks.
» Siefke recorded one service ace in the match. She has led the Eagles in the category every match this season and is tied for the most aces in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) with 11.
» Hatteras Welker (Sunbury, Ohio/Sunbury) denied two blocks, bringing her total to 26 on the young season, a mark that paces the MAC
