Tennis Caps Block E Invite with Seven Podium Finishes

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis program played host to the Block E Invitational, Friday-Saturday, Sept. 20-21, at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti with the Eagles posting seven finishes in the top three, including one doubles title in the six-team event. Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India/Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) and Kseniia Saenko (Voronezh, Russia/Gymnasium 2) led the way for the Eagles as the duo posted a perfect 3-0 record in Doubles Draw 2 to claim the title with both also finishing fourth in their respective singles draws.

Along with the title captured by Vichare and Saenko, the team of Lily Tria (Westerly, R.I./Westerly/Colby-Sawyer) and Regina Mendez (Los Cabos, Mexico/Picacho McGregor) went 1-1 in Doubles Draw 4 to take second place in the round robin draw while the teams of Daniella Shved (Holon, Israel/Ort Holon) and Iva Daneva (Kavadarci, North Macadonia/DSU Sportska Akademija) in Double Draw 1 and the team of Lara Diaz Zayas (Mar de Ajo, Argentina/SEADEA) and Viki Hazmukova (Skvorec, Czechia/Skoly Brezova) in Doubles Draw 3 both finished third.

In singles play, two players finished third in the upper draws while Tria, playing her first matches at the NCAA Division I level and for the Eagles, went 1-1 in round robin play to finish runner-up in Singles Draw 7. Shved posted a 2-1 mark in Singles Draw 1 while Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czechia/Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) was 2-1 in Singles Draw 2 with both placing third. Three others placed fourth, including Saenko in Singles Draw 1, Daneva in Singles Draw 2, and Vichare in Singles Draw 4.

The two-day event featured players from Bowling Green State University, the University of Findlay, Oakland University, Wayne State University, and Youngstown State University.
