Eastern set for 14 home games; will travel to play at No. 11 Notre Dame as well
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team is set to play 29 games in the regular season during the 2024-25 campaign, first-year Head Coach Sahar Nusseibeh announced today, Aug. 14. The Eagles' slate will feature 11 non-conference games, including road trips to face a pair of 2024 NCAA Tournament teams, to go along with the traditional 18-game Mid-American Conference (MAC) schedule.
Overall, Eastern will play host to 14 games during the season with five coming inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti ahead of nine league contests. Once again, the top eight teams in the final regular season standings will earn berths into the 2025 MAC Tournament that will be held inside Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, March 12-15.
Eastern fans can get their first look at Nusseibeh's team as the Eagles will play host to Texas State University, Nov. 4, as part of the MAC-SBC (Sun Belt Conference) Challenge, which is entering its second year.
Following a home date with Alabama A&M University, Nov. 9, Eastern will hit the road for the first time as it travels north to East Lansing, Mich., Nov. 11, to face Michigan State University, who advanced to the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The Eagles return home, Nov. 21, when they play host to Purdue University Fort Wayne before closing out the first month of the season, Nov. 26, with a road game at the University of Detroit Mercy.
Eastern will play five games in December with home games sandwiching three contests away from home. The month opens Dec. 1 with a home contest against Xavier University before the Eagles travel to South Bend, Ind., Dec. 15, to take on the University of Notre Dame, who finished last season ranked No. 11 nationally and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Eagles remain on the road after playing the Fighting Irish as Eastern will take part in the UTRGV Holiday Classic, which will take place Dec. 19-20, in Edinburg, Texas, on the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley campus. The four-team event opens Dec. 19 with Eastern facing the host Vaqueros before taking on the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Dec. 20. The month ends at home, Dec. 28, as the Eagles will play host to the University of St. Thomas (Minn.).
When the calendar turns to 2025, the team's attention will turn toward league action as Eastern will open MAC play at home, Jan. 1, with its lone game of the season against rival Western Michigan University with the Broncos coming to town on New Year's Day. After back-to-back road games at Bowling Green State University (Jan. 4) and Ball State University (Jan. 8), Eastern returns home, Jan. 11, for the first of three men's-women's doubleheaders as both squads welcome the University of Akron to town.
A bit of familiarity is next up for Eastern as the University at Buffalo, neighbor's to Nusseibeh's former school, Canisius University, comes to town, Jan. 15. From there, the Eagles head to rival Central Michigan University, Jan. 18, before returning home to take on Northern Illinois University, Jan. 22. The month of January comes to a close with a pair of road MAC games with Eastern traveling to both Ohio University (Jan. 25) and Kent State University (Jan. 29).
Eastern returns home to welcome the University of Toledo, the defending MAC champion, Feb. 1, before hitting the road to face Miami University, Feb. 5. One final non-conference game will be played Feb. 8 against a to-be-named Sun Belt Conference foe. The game, with pairings announced in late December, will be played on the road at the SBC opponent's home venue as the second half of the 2024-25 MAC-SBC Challenge.
With the non-conference schedule now complete, the Eagles will play four of their final seven games of the regular season at home, starting with a Feb. 15 game against Ball State as part of a doubleheader that will see the EMU men welcome Toledo to town. The two-game home stand ends Feb. 19 with CMU coming to town.
The final doubleheader of the season awaits, Feb. 22, on the road as both EMU squads will travel to face NIU with the women returning home, Feb. 26, to play host to Miami. The final two road games of the season await Eastern from there as Nusseibeh and her team return to the Buffalo area for a March 1 game at UB before playing at Akron, March 5, in the final road game of the season. Eastern closes out the regular season by hosting BGSU, March 8.
Game times and television designations will be announced at later dates.
