Eastern held the highest GPA among all teams in NCAA Division I in 2024

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University lacrosse program was named the 2024 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Merit Squad for NCAA Division I as the Eagles posted the highest grade-point average (GPA) among all teams in the division, the Association announced Wednesday, Aug. 14. After holding the second-highest GPA in 2023 behind only Harvard University, the Eagles took the top spot in 2024 with a cumulative GPA of 3.738.

Eastern was joined on the IWLCA Academic Merit Squad list by Mercy University from NCAA Division II; Pomona-Pitzer College of NCAA Division III; and the University of the Cumberlands from NAIA. Among the four recipients of the accolade, only PPC held a higher GPA than the Eagles at 3.825.

IWLCA Academic Honor Squad recognition is given annually to women's lacrosse programs that carried a 3.2 or higher GPA through the academic year and the Eagles were one of 327 teams across the nation to receive the accolade with teams from NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA making up the list. EMU also was one of 101 schools from NCAA Division I to earn the honor.

The Eagles are nearing the start of the 2024-25 academic year with recently hired Maddie Dugan set to take the reins of a program that advanced to the 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament, marking the program's first postseason berth. Dugan is the reigning MAC Coach of the Year after guiding the University of Detroit Mercy to the MAC final.
