The team award comes after eight Eagles earned individual academic honors in the 2023-24 academic year
GREENSBORO, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University Baseball Team earned the American Baseball Coaches' Association's (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, the association announced Wednesday, July 24.
The ABCA recognizes over 800-member college and high school programs from across the country that have been awarded the 2023-24 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack. Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the cumulative 2023-24 academic year.
Nearly 350 high school programs and more than 470 collegiate programs were recognized with this year's award.
The Eagles posted a 3.431 cumulative GPA in the 2023-24 academic year, highlighted by the winter semester where 26 members of the squad compiled a GPA over 3.0, and three notched a perfect 4.0.
The award comes after multiple individual academic honors as Nick Chittum, Logan Hugo (Essexville, Mich./Essexville Garber), Bobby Jones (Loveland, Ohio/St. Xavier/Xavier), Blake McRae, Logan Milene, Glenn Miller, Cory Taylor, and Cooper Vance (New Waterford, Ohio/Mohawk) earned Academic All-MAC, June 21. Chittum's award marked his third consecutive season qualifying for the list. Hugo, Miller, and Taylor each collected the honor for the second time in their respective EMU careers. Jones, McRae, and Vance each made the list for the first time, respectively.
Chittum, McRae, Hugo, Miller, and Taylor added to their academic accolades with respective CSC Academic All-District distinctions, as they all posted a GPA above 3.50 while participating in 90% of the team's games, June 4.
