EMU Student-Athletes Post Highest Cumulative GPA In Department History

Student-athletes posted a 3.430 cumulative GPA and a 3.399 semester GPA
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University student-athletes set a school record with a 3.430 cumulative GPA following the Winter 2024 semester. It was also the 29th consecutive semester of earning higher than a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average.
With 486 student-athletes, Eastern recorded a 3.399 winter semester GPA. The department's term GPA is the second-best since records began being tracked in the fall of 1999 with the figure slightly trailing the Fall 2023 mark of 3.404. Furthermore, EMU notched the department's all-time best cumulative GPA at 3.430, 0.025 ahead of the previous best of 3.405 in Fall 2023.

"This success is a reflection of highly committed and hard-working student-athletes and our department's dedication to academic excellence. I'm especially appreciative of our coaching staff who recruit strong students and create team cultures that value academic success, as well as our outstanding professors and Student-Athlete Support Services staff members who are on the front lines in providing a first-class education."
Overall, there were 82 EMU student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs last semester, led by lacrosse and swimming & diving which had 15 a piece.
Furthermore, 78 percent (377) of EMU student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher for the semester and all 19 sports had term GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
For the semester, swimming & diving led all sports with a term GPA of 3.780 on EMU's 4.0 scale. Soccer (3.730) was next, while lacrosse (3.675) was third. Gymnastics (3.668) and women's golf (3.655) rounded out the top five programs for the winter semester.
Men's Basketball (3.162), football (3.073), and swimming & diving each surpassed their previous semester GPA standards, while women's basketball (3.380) and rowing (3.480) notched their second-best marks.
Overall, a total of 81 percent of EMU student-athletes hold a cumulative GPA above 3.0.
