Rowing Secures Three Top-Five Finishes in Grand Finals at CAA Championships

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University rowing team secured a trio of top-five finishes in Saturday's Grand Finals at the Coastal Athletic Association championships Friday-Saturday, May 17-18, at Cooper River Park as senior Reagan Fazekas was honored as All-CAA.
Fazekas (Hillsdale, Mich./Hanover-Horton) and the Eagles finished in the top-five in the 1V4 (8:24.632), 2V8 (7:21.090), and 3V8 (7:49.740) as all four of Eastern's boats cut at least 18 seconds off of their 2023 times, most notably the 1V4's elimination of more than 1:25.
Northeastern secured its 10th-straight CAA title. EMU, which has been competing as an affiliate member of the CAA since 2012-13, placed seventh.
Fazekas is the 12th different Eagle to earn All-CAA honors as junior Lily Wilhelm (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville/Butler) was recognized in 2023.
How It Happened
Friday's action consisted of heat races as the top three in each heat advanced to Saturday's Grand Finals.
All three boats dropped time from Friday to Saturday's Grand Finals, highlighted by the 2V8 dropping 18.163 seconds for a fifth-place effort with a 7:21.090 mark. The 1V4 cut 10.625 seconds, finishing fifth in 8:24.632.
Despite finishing in the top-six in all three boats Friday, the 1V8 advanced to the Petite Final after fourth-place heat race finish. The Eagles, which outpaced the University of Connecticut and Monmouth University, were left on the outside looking in as the Huskies and Hawks were in the other heat. EMU won the Petite Final Saturday with a 7:26.412 finish, dropping time from its 7:30.250 heat race finish.
The 3V8, which did not have a heat race Friday, placed fifth in the Grand Final, crossing in 7:49.740.
