Johnson Ties Career-High Four RBI in Baseball's Loss to Bowling Green

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Junior Lucas Johnson collected four RBI as the Eastern Michigan University baseball team fell to the Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular season champions, Bowling Green State University, 8-6, on the Eagles' Senior Day, Sunday, May 12, at Oestrike Stadium.
Johnson (Hamilton, Ontario/Westdale Secondary/Wright State) went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run in addition to his career-high tying four RBI for the Eagles. Junior Aidan Arbogast (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson/Mid-Michigan/Kellogg C.C.) put together a standout effort as well with a double and two RBI.
Senior Glenn Miller (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater/Spring Arbor) also contributed for Eastern Michigan, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk.
How it Happened
The Eagles were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Eastern Michigan's offense started clicking and put up five runs in the inning, including a three-run home run off the bat of Johnson and a two-run double from Arbogast.
The Falcons then tied the ballgame at five before the Eagles came back to reclaim their advantage in the fourth inning. Eastern pushed across a run on Johnson's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 6-5 in favor of the Eagles.
The Eagles were unable to hold the lead, as Bowling Green scored three times over the remaining five innings to grab the 8-6 win.
Game Notes
» Johnson homered in the bottom of the first, marking his fourth of the season and elevating his RBI total to 25. He finished the game with three hits and four RBI for his fifth three-hit game of the season and second four-RBI performance. Additionally, his four RBI tied a career-high.
» Arbogast roped a double to the right field corner in the first, scoring two Eagles and marking his eighth extra-base hit of the season. His double scored two EMU baserunners, bringing his RBI total to 20 and capturing his fourth multi-RBI game of the season.
» The Eagles scored five runs in the first, marking their 19th inning scoring four or more runs this season. The inning also went down as the 13th time the Eagles have scored in the first frame.
» Miller knocked three hits to capture his ninth game with multiple hits and his second three-hit day of the season. The senior also scored multiple runs for the third time this season.
» With 14 hits in the game the Eagles surpassed the double-digit mark in hits for the 27th time this season.
» Logan Hugo (Essexville, Mich./Essexville Garber) knocked three hits for his 10th multi-hit game of the year. He also stole his 18th base of the season, furthering his team lead in the category. Hugo's 18 swiped bags stands as the second-most in the conference.
» Jack Topolski (Seven Hills, Ohio/Holy Name) tossed his second shutout appearance of the season and second in his previous three games as he pitched 1.2 innings with one strikeout.
Historical Notes
» Sunday's game marked the 190th all-time meeting between the Eagles and Falcons. After the result, the Eagles hold a 112-79 record against BGSU.
