Tennis Falls in MAC Opener at Miami, 4-3

Eagles take RedHawks to the wire, but unable to secure victory on the road
OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team battled to the end but were unable to overcome the Miami University RedHawks in both teams' Mid-American Conference opener as the Eagles fell on the road Sunday, March 17, 4-3, in Oxford, Ohio. The Eagles (6-7, 0-1 MAC) won the doubles point on the road for the first time this season, but the RedHawks (7-7, 1-0 MAC) pulled out the deciding point in a three-set match at No. 3 singles.
How It Happened
Eastern opened the scoring by securing the doubles point as the Eagles took of three matches. After Miami took the No. 2 match, the team of Daniella Shved (Holon, Israel/Ort Holon) and Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India/Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) battled to a 7-6 win at No. 1 right before the No. 3 team of Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic/Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) and Ksyusha Saenko (Voronezh, Russia/Gymnasium 2) won their match, 7-6(), to secure the doubles point.
The lead for the visitors was short lived, however, as the RedHawks rattled off three consecutive singles wins to take a 3-1 lead. Miami secured points win wins at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 positions. The Eagles responded with a pair of wins as Brichackova captured a win at No. 6 as she scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Saenko followed at No. 4 with her 7-6, 7-5 win to knot things at 3-3. But the hosts would take the match as won at No. 3 where Andrea Quiroz (Lima, Peru/La Molina 1278/Alcorn State) battled, but ultimately fell, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

›› Sabina Brichackova added a pair of wins on the day as well to bring her career total to 79 combined wins. She has posted 41 singles and 38 doubles wins in her three years in Ypsilanti.
›› Sabina Brichackova and Ksyusha Saenko combined to win their match at No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point for the Eagles, marking the first time in 2024 Eastern has won the doubles point on the road.

Next week, the Eagles will play twice against Ball State University with the teams each hosting the other for a single dual. The action begins Friday, March 22, with the Cardinals coming to Ypsilanti for a 1 p.m. first serve at the Chippewa Club. The two teams will then meet in Muncie, Ind., Sunday, March 24, for a noon first serve. Both matches will count toward the MAC standings.
