Acuff named All-MAC Third Team, Osojnik named Freshman All-MAC
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University men's basketball student-athletes junior Tyson Acuff and freshman Arne Osojnik have been recognized in the Mid-American Conference's annual awards, as voted on by the conference's 12 head coaches and revealed Wednesday, March 13.
Acuff (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech/Duquesne) was named All-MAC Third Team while Osojnik (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Dream City Christian) was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team.
Acuff's 21.7 points per game leads the MAC and ranks seventh in the nation. Acuff's season was highlighted by a 34-point, 10-rebound showing against Bowling Green State University, Feb. 17, as his first career double-double earned him MAC Player of the Week honors. Acuff has scored at least 11 points in 30-straight games, dating back to the final three games of the 2022-23 season. Acuff's streak is the longest by an Eagle dating back through at least 2000.
Acuff's 37.9 minutes per game ranks fourth in the nation while averaging 3.6 rebounds per game and a team-leading 2.8 assists per game. Acuff became the 32nd player in EMU history to surpass 1,000 points as an Eagle after doing so against Ball State University, Feb. 24.
Acuff joins Emoni Bates (2022-23), Elijah Minnie (2017-18), Raven Lee (2015-16), Karrington Ward (2014-15), and Darrell Lampley (2011-12) as the six Eagles to be named All-MAC Third Team.
Osojnik leads the MAC's list of true freshmen in scoring at 8.8 points per game. Osojnik scored a career-high 22 points against the University of Louisiana-Monroe, Feb. 10, before matching the mark against Western Michigan University, Feb. 27. Osojnik shot 36.5% from three, converting 2.1 three-pointers per game, which ranks seventh in the conference. The freshman also averaged 3.5 rebounds per game and his 15 blocked shots were just one off the team lead.
Osojnik joins Mo Njie (2021-22), James Thompson IV (2015-16), Brandon Bowdry (2006-07), Carlos Medlock (2005-06), and Lorenzo Neely (1997-98) as the six Eagles to be named All-MAC Freshman Team.
