CHARLESTON, S.C. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University tennis team closed out its road trip through South Carolina with a 7-0 loss to host Charleston Southern University Thursday, Feb. 29, at the Gary Clark Banks Sr. Tennis Center in Charleston, S.C. The match for the Eagles (5-6) was their fifth in a row away from home and their second consecutive playing outdoors.

Quoting Kucera
"It was a much-improved day for us today," Head Coach Ryan Kucera said. "We've struggled on the road this season, but today we adjusted much better. Our doubles played much more aggressively and confidently than the past few matches. We were also more comfortable in the outdoor conditions compared to Tuesday (at South Carolina State), which allowed our level to increase. Competing this well against an [NCAA] tournament quality opponent will only help us as we transition toward conference play."

Notes
›› Eastern fell to 5-6 overall while Charleston Southern improved to 5-3.
›› It has been a tale of two cities for the Eagles in 2024 as they are 5-0 at home and 0-6 on the road.
›› The loss is only the third shutout posted against the Eagles this year with the others coming against Big Ten foes, including a 7-0 loss at Northwestern in the season opener, Jan. 20, and 4-0 setback at Michigan State, Feb. 11.
›› The doubles team of Linda Eloundou (Yaounde, Cameroon/Augustine Meyou/New Mexico Military Institute) and Andrea Quiroz (Lima, Peru/La Molina 1278/Alcorn State) secured their fourth victory as a pairing this year, tying for the most of any duo on the roster. They also secured their first win together in the No. 2 position.

How It Happened
The hosts jumped out to a 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point as they won at No. 1 and No. 3. The EMU team of Eloundou and Quiroz were victorious at No. 2 as they captured a 6-4 win, their fourth together as a duo this year.

In singles play, the Buccaneers swept through all six matches to claim the team victory, 7-0.

Up Next
The Eagles return to action at home Saturday, March 9, when the University of Findlay comes to town. The first serve between the Eagles and Oilers is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti.
