Swimming Grabs Nine First-Place Finishes at First Chance Meet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swim and dive team competed at the First Chance Meet, hosted by the University of Michigan at the Canham Natatorium, Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 17-18.

» The Eagles secured nine first-place finishes.
» Eastern saw five personal-best performances and one season-fastest outing from a relay team.

How it Happened
The meet was highlighted by Eastern's performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Katie Shoen (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy)Marlee Christie (Seminole, Fla./Seminole)Lucy Noble (Flagler Beach, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast), and Kiersten Russell (Clinton, Mich./Saline) placed first in 1:33.16, marking a season-fastest in the 200y free for the Eagles and making the cut to compete at the upcoming College Swim & Dive Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Invitational Championships, in Ocala, Fla., March 14-16.

Noble and Ali Kudo (Guelph, Ontario/John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational) each secured multiple first place finishes. Noble took gold in the 50y freestyle in 24.10, and the 100y freestyle time trial in 53.00. Kudo placed first in the 200y freestyle and 100y freestyle in 1:53.67 and 53.69, respectively.

The 50y freestyle was a strong showing from the Green and White, as three Eagles secured personal-bests in Sophie Gatrall (Windsor, Ontario/Tecumseh Vista Academy) (24.20), Emma Littrell (Taylor Mill, Ky./St. Henry District) (24.25), and Maren Romine (San Antonio, Texas/International School of the Americas) (27.24).

Up Next
The Eagles will enter post-season competition, beginning with the Mid-American Conference Championships, Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 28-March 2. The meet will be hosted by Ohio University at the Ohio Aquatic Center.
