James Djonkam, Jesús Gómez, Oran Singleton, and Terry Lockett were honored
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University football team had four players earn Mid-American Conference postseason accolades as junior wide receiver Oran Singleton (Clewiston, Fla./Clewiston/Akron/Hutchinson CC), senior linebacker James Djonkam (Springfield, Va./West Springfield/Independence CC/Arizona State), and junior kicker Jesús Gómez (Puebla, Mexico/Prepa Tec Puebla) garnered Second-Team All-MAC, while senior wide receiver Terry Lockett Jr. (St. Paul, Minn./Minnehaha Academy/Michigan State) taking home Third-Team All-MAC accolades, the league announced today, Dec. 5.
All of the awards were voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.
Singleton emerged as a dynamic playmaker in the receiving corps, leading the team with 639 receiving yards on 64 catches, averaging 10 yards per reception. His steady production included two touchdown receptions, with a season-best 103-yard effort against the University of Toledo. Singleton also contributed as a punt returner, averaging 2.7 yards per return, showcasing his versatility.
Gómez's consistency and range made him a cornerstone of the Eagles' special teams. Connecting on 20-of-25 field goal attempts for an 80 percent success rate, Gómez ranked second in the MAC and 10th nationally with 1.67 field goals per game. His longest conversion, a program-record 57-yard field goal, came during the Eagles' contest at the University of Washington. Gómez also contributed 87 points this season, maintaining his position among EMU's all-time leaders in career scoring and PATs. Recognized as a Lou Groza Award candidate, Gómez's excellence extended beyond the field, earning him the MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Dec. 4.
Djonkam solidified himself as one of the conference's premier defenders, ranking fourth in the MAC and 14th nationally with 9.8 tackles per game. He recorded a total of 98 tackles, including 34 solo efforts and 11.5 tackles for loss. His season highlights included a dominant performance against the University at Buffalo with a career-high 22 tackles. His relentless effort on the field earned him three MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 2 (co-recipient), Nov.25 (co-recipient), and Dec. 2.
Lockett provided the Eagles with a potent downfield threat, amassing 660 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 46 receptions. He led the team with an impressive 14.35 yards per catch, ranking 11th in the MAC. Lockett's 122-yard, two-touchdown performance against Buffalo highlighted his ability to deliver in clutch moments. His knack for big plays complemented Singleton's consistency, making them a formidable duo for EMU.
