38th-minute goal helps Eagles to key three points in MAC Tournament race

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Freshman Tayla Maddock's first career goal lifted the Eastern Michigan University soccer team over Miami University in a critical Mid-American Conference match Sunday, Oct. 6 at Scicluna Field.

Maddock's (Camlachie, Ontario/St. Patrick's Catholic High School) 38th-minute goal helped the Eagles earn three points and a win that could prove to be vital down the stretch as EMU seeks to position itself for a run into the MAC Tournament, which six teams qualify for.

How It Happened

The first half, which had just six total shots, had limited action until Maddock's 38th-minute goal.

Sophomore Rosalie Takacsy (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) sent a corner kick to the far post that found Maddock's head as the ball slipped inside the right post.

The Eagles escaped giving up an equalizer in the 66th minute as the RedHawk shot rattled off the right post.

Eastern's defense was stout throughout the contest as redshirt sophomore Ella Holland (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody/Samford) made three saves to earn her six clean sheet of the season.

EMU led in shots by a 11-9 margin while the Eagles also led in corners by a 7-4 margin.
