All EMU donations will go to Swoop's Pantry on campus
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – As the temperatures begin to fall, football teams across the Mid-American Conference will turn their focus toward mid-week games, affectionately known as #MACtion. And when those games get underway, another competition off the field will be taking place as schools in the MAC will hold one-on-one canned food competitions with an added bonus included.
Starting this weekend, members of the Eastern Michigan University Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) will begin collecting non-perishable canned food items as the Eagles battle the University at Buffalo in the competition and look to #BeatTheBulls. The premise is simple: the school that collects more donations before Nov. 17 will not only win the head-to-head battle, but the director of athletics from the non-winning school will wear the winning team's colors at the #MACtion game between Eastern and Buffalo, Nov. 20, in Ypsilanti. While the 'colors' have not been determined, it could range anywhere from a jersey to the mascot uniform. More details will be released later.
While the food drive will be a fun competition, it also will help with hunger in and around the campus communities as all donations at EMU events will go to Swoop's Pantry on campus and support the Kroger Corporation's Fight to End Childhood Hunger initiative.
In addition to helping those in need, fans who donate are eligible to receive a free game ticket. By donating one canned food item at the Gate 2 entrance to Rynearson Stadium, Nov. 2, ahead of the University of Toledo at EMU football game (noon, ESPNU), that fan will receive a complimentary ticket to the game between EMU and Buffalo, Nov. 20. Additionally, when donating at any men's and women's basketball games before Nov. 17, fans will receive a complimentary ticket to an EMU basketball game later in the season.
