Volleyball Falls to Ohio

The Eagles and Bobcats are back on the court tomorrow at 4 p.m.
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fell to the Ohio Bobcats in four sets, 3-1, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center Friday, Oct. 25.
The Eagles' attack was paced by Kaili Doctor (Mars, Pa./Pine-Richland/N.C. A&T State), who finished with 10 kills on the day, and by Abby Stanford (Zanesville, Ohio/Tri valley/Ashland), who had 10 while hitting .368.
Defensively, Eastern had two players reach double figures in digs as Maddie Stayer (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor/Southern Miss./Jacksonville St.) had 14, adding 18 assists for her fourth double-double this season, while Hannah Blaney (Saline, Mich./Saline/Rhode Island) had 12.
How it Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tough first set, 25-16. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as 10 points as Ohio grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Bobcats took control.
SET 2 | Eastern fell in set two, 25-21, digging a 2-0 hole in the match. The Eagles dropped the second set in spite of a strong performance on the attacking end, as the Eagles registered a .351 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set.
SET 3 | EMU stayed alive with a win in the third set to make it a 2-1 match. The Eagles survived a back-and-forth set to win, 25-22, in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way.
SET 4 | Eastern Michigan could not keep the rally going and lost in the fourth set, 25-14 to drop the match. The Eagles fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before losing the set.
Match Notes
» With eight blocks to Ohio's six, the Eagles out-blocked their opponent for the 15th time this season. They hold a 10-5 record when doing so.
» Stayer recorded her fourth double-double of the season. She led the team in both assists (18) and digs (14). Her performance marked sixth time pacing the team in assists and first time leading the squad in digs.
» Stanford drilled 10 kills in the match, marking her seventh double-digit kills performance this season and ninth of her career. She has reached double-digit kills in six of her last nine performances. Stanford hit an efficient .368 on her attacks. She has hit better than .350 in ten matches this season, and accomplished the feat eight of her last 10 matches played.
» Doctor also posted 10 kills on the night. Doctor has reached double figures in the stat in 11 of her 15 matches this season. Her 10 kills tied with Stanford for the most from an Eagle in the match, marking her seventh time pacing the Green and White in kills in 2024.
» Taylor Smith (Pewamo, Mich./Pewamo-Westphalia) dished 13 times for her 11th game with 10+ dimes. Smith has eclipsed the double-digit mark in the category in 11 of her 13 matches played in 2024.
» Blaney led the team in digs for the 19th time this season as she recorded 12. Blaney has tabbed at least 10 digs in 21 of the Eagles' 24 matches this season, and has done so in 59 of her 97 career games (60.8%). She also tied a career high with eight assists.

» Eastern holds a 19-40 all-time record against the Bobcats, and a 11-18 mark when facing them in Ypsilanti.
