Volleyball Endures Setback at Toledo

The Eagles will next open a season-long four-match homestand, beginning Thursday, Oct. 17
TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fell in three sets to the University of Toledo Friday evening inside Savage Arena, Oct. 11.
Maddie Stayer (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor/Southern Miss./Jacksonville State) finished with eight kills and a career-best six blocks to lead the Eagles while finishing with a hitting percentage of .353.
The Eagles got 16 digs from Hannah Blaney (Saline, Mich./Saline/Rhode Island), who ranks fourth nationally in the stat, along with eight blocks from Hatteras Welker (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut).
How it Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tough first set, 25-17. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as eight points as Toledo grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that was knotted up six times before the Rockets took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Eastern then lost set two, 25-23, to fall behind in the match, 2-0. Toledo grabbed the lead at 23-22 in a set that was tied 10 times before the Rockets took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Eastern Michigan could not prolong the match and lost in the third set. The Eagles fell behind on the first point and never took the lead before losing the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-0.
Match Notes
» Welker's eight blocks went down as the second-most from an Eagle in a three-set match in program history. She also paced the team in the stat for the ninth time this season.
» Eastern out-blocked its opponent for the 13th time this season, they are 9-4 in such matches.
» Stayer had a career-best six rejections in the match, and led the team in kills for the second time in 2024.
» Ella Voorhees (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown/Southern Miss.) dished 10 assists, her 19th time posting double-digits in the category in the 2024 campaign. She has reached 10 dimes in 19-of-21 matches this season.
» Blaney grabbed 16 digs, her 18th time doing so this year. She totals 349 digs this season, ranking her fourth nationally and first in the Mid-American Conference.
Historical Notes
» After the match, the Eagles hold a 61-24 all-time record against the Rockets, and a 22-17 mark when facing them in Toledo.
