YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball fell to the hot-shooting Central Michigan University, 80-64, Tuesday, Jan. 9, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center.

The Chippewas shot a blistering 11-of-17 (64.3%) from three-point range as the Eagles held their final lead of the game at the 12:12 mark of the first half.

How It Happened
Despite Central Michigan making six of its first seven attempts from three-point range, the Eagles trailed by just two after 20 minutes at 33-31.

CMU's hot shooting continued in the second half, extending its advantage to as many as 22 with 2:54 to play before closing the game with a 16-point advantage.

» Eastern moved to 8-7 overall and 1-2 in MAC play while Central Michigan moved to 7-8 overall and 2-1 in the MAC.
» Eastern Michigan was 26-of-61 (42.1%) from the floor and 4-of-17 (23.5%) from three-point range while Central Michigan was 30-of-49 (61.2%) from the field and 11-of-17 (64.3%) from deep.
» Sophomore Orlando Lovejoy (Detroit, Mich./Summit Academy North), who scored 16 points, has six-straight games with 14-plus points. Lovejoy had just two games of 14-plus points in his previous 32 games (18 vs. Wayne State University, Nov. 7, 2022; 15 at Bowling Green State University, Feb. 28, 2023).
» Lovejoy tied a season-high with four free throw makes. Lovejoy also made four foul shots at the University of Michigan, Dec. 16.
» Junior Tyson Acuff (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical/Duquesne) is approaching 1,000 career points and sits at 975 career points after his 13-point performance. Acuff netted 239 points in his two seasons at Duquesne.
» Redshirt junior Julius Ellerbe (Fort Washington, Md./Virginia Beach Sports Academy/East Central CC) netted a season-high 15 points, topping his previous mark of 10 points against Cleveland State, Nov. 18. Ellerbe also tallied a season-high six made field goals, shooting an efficient 6-for-8 from the floor while also converting a season-high two three-pointers.
» EMU had three players (Lovejoy, 16; Ellerbe, 15; Acuff, 13) in double-digit points for the eighth time this season.
» EMU had a season-high 10 steals, its most since recording 11 steals at Miami University, Jan. 28, 2023.
» Redshirt junior Connor Serven (Prairie City, Ill./St. Rita/Illinois) posted a career-high three steals, topping his previous mark of two against the University of North Dakota, Nov. 26.
» EMU had four players with multiple steals. Serven had three while Lovejoy, Acuff, and freshman Arne Osojnik (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Dream City Christian) each had two.
» Osojnik's two steals marks his third career performance with two steals (Dec. 30 vs. Northwood University and at the University of Central Arkansas, Nov. 25).
» Redshirt junior Micah Schnyders (New Lenox, Ill./Yorkville Christian/Eastern Illinois/Wheaton) tallied his second bucket as an Eagle with a turnaround jump shot in the paint late in the second half. Schnyders also recorded his second assist at EMU.
» Eastern, which hit four threes against Central Michigan, has now hit at least one triple in 597-straight games. EMU last failed to score from downtown Jan. 24, 2004, when Miami held the Eagles to 0-of-7 from behind the arc.

Historical Notes
» Eastern Michigan trails in the series against Central Michigan, 101-105. EMU has topped CMU in three of the last four meetings.
