Miami Uses Second-Half Surge to Top EMU, 71-54

RedHawks use 22-3 run to take control
OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team fell to Miami University, 71-54, as the RedHawks pulled away with a late 22-3 surge Saturday, Jan. 13, inside Millett Hall.
Junior Tyson Acuff (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical/Duquesne) had 19 points to lead EMU.
How It Happened
Miami held its largest lead at 31-18 with 4:21 left in the first half but the Eagles rallied to trim the deficit to 33-28 at the break.
The RedHawks extended its advantage back out to 45-34 before EMU used an 11-0 run to even the game at 45-45, capped by a jumper from junior Yusuf Jihad (Farmington, Mich./North Farmington/Oakland).
Miami outscored Eastern Michigan, 26-9, in the final 10:45, which included a 22-3 spurt.

» Eastern moved to 8-8 overall and 1-3 in Mid-American Conference play while Miami moved to 8-8 overall and 2-2 in the MAC.
» Eastern Michigan was 18-of-58 (31.0%) from the floor and 4-of-20 (20.0%) from three-point range while Miami was 23-of-50 (46.0%) from the field and 7-of-20 (35.0%) from deep.
» Acuff is approaching 1,000 career points and sits at 984 career points after his 19-point performance. Acuff netted 239 points in his two seasons at Duquesne.
» Redshirt junior Julius Ellerbe (Fort Washington, Md./Virginia Beach Sports Academy/East Central CC) scored 11 points to go with eight rebounds. Ellerbe has scored 10-plus points three times on the season and has five games with eight-plus rebounds.
» Ellerbe tallied season highs with nine free throws made and 10 free throws attempted.
» Redshirt junior Connor Serven (Prairie City, Ill./St. Rita/Illinois) posted a career-high three assists.
» Redshirt junior Micah Schnyders (New Lenox, Ill./Yorkville Christian/Eastern Illinois/Wheaton) made his first three-pointer as an Eagle late in the first half. He also recorded two rebounds for the first time at EMU.
» Eastern, which hit four threes against Miami, has now hit at least one triple in 598-straight games. EMU last failed to score from downtown Jan. 24, 2004, when Miami held the Eagles to 0-of-7 from behind the arc.
