Tennis Places Two on Academic All-MAC Team

31 Student Athletes Named to Women's Tennis Academic All-MAC Team
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team saw two Eagles named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team, the league office announced today, June 1. Sophomores Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) and Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) each earned the distinction for the first time in their careers.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
Brichackova finished the season with 11 singles wins, placing second on the team, primarily in the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. The sophomore earned non-conference singles wins against Chicago State, Feb. 10, Youngstown State, Feb. 18, Illinois-Chicago, March 11, and Oakland, March 12.
Playing only in the No. 2 spot the entire season, Vichare closed the year 5-5 in singles taking wins against Chicago State, Feb. 10, Youngstown State, Feb. 18, Illinois-Chicago, March 11, and Oakland, March 12. As a pair, Brichackova and Vichare share a 3-7 overall record in doubles play, taking two conference wins over Northern Illinois, April 7, and April 14, respectively. Overall, the Eastern Michigan University tennis team finished the 2023 season 6-9 overall with a 3-7 conference mark.
The league was led by the University of Toledo, which had six student-athletes named to the team. Ball State University and the University at Buffalo each followed with the second most, placing five student-athletes on the list, while Western Michigan University and Miami University both saw four nominees earn Academic All-MAC status. Rounding out the group was Northern Illinois University with three and Bowling Green State University tied with EMU with two apiece.
