Five Eagles Earn CSC Academic All-District At-Large Honors

AUSTIN, Texas (EMUEagles.com) – Five Eastern Michigan Student-Athletes have been named Academic All-District Selections in the at-large category by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), the organization announced today, May 23.

The 2023 Academic All‐District® At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All‐America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All‐District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All‐America® ballot. First‐, second and third‐team Academic All‐America® honorees will be announced in late December.

Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. At-large berths are up for grabs from those student-athletes competing in lacrosse, golf, rowing, gymnastics, and numerous other NCAA-sponsored sports.

This year's Eastern Michigan honorees include Lily Wilhelm (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) from the Eastern Michigan rowing team, Ella Chemotti (Canton, Mich.-Canton) and Haydn Crossen (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) from gymnastics, and Avery Schwab (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin-Scioto) and Tracy Grollman (Annapolis, Md.-Annapolis Area Christian School) from lacrosse.

Wilhelm is coming off an impressive season for EMU rowing that saw her capture First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors. She was part of the First Varsity Eight boat that competed at the CAA Championships, May 12. It is the first such honor for the second-year Eagle. She is the 10th Eastern Michigan rower in program history to earn All-CAA status.

Chemotti Appeared in all 12 meets for the Eagles across all four events, and posted six scores of 9.900 or better on beam, including a season-high of 9.925 at the West Virginia Quad, Jan. 29, and Northern Illinois, Feb. 17. She recorded personal bests in vault and floor, 9.800 and 9.850 respectively against Bowling Green, March 12, as well as all-around, 39.100, at the EMU Triangular, March 3. A First Team All-MAC selection, she earned seven first-place finishes on beam, and concluded the 2023 campaign atop the MAC beam rankings with an NQS of 9.895.

Crossen, and Academic All-MAC selection, appeared in all 12 meets for Eastern Michigan as part of the bars, beam and floor lineups. She posted personal best performances on bars, 9.900, at the MAC Championship, March 18, and on floor, 9.875 at the EMU Triangular, March 3. Her career high on floor aided the Eagles to season-best 49.250 event total at the EMU Triangular, March 3. Additionally, she posted a personal-best 9.900 on bars at the 2023 MAC Championship to finish fourth overall.

Schwab was part of the inaugural season for the EMU lacrosse program, and finished tied for fourth on the team with 19 total points for the Eagles this season. An everyday player for the Green and White, Schwab played in all 16 contests and made 13 starts for Eastern this season. Her four assists against Xavier, March 12, finished as a single-game season-high by any Eagle this season.

Grollman was third on the team with 26 points in her first season at Eastern Michigan, earning 12 starts and 16 overall appearances for the lacrosse team in 2023. Her six ground balls against Kent State, April 12, went as a single-game season-high for Eastern this season. Additionally, she was third on the team with 19 goals this season.
