Re-Watch the Game.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --
The Eastern Michigan University baseball team battled, but ultimately fell, 1-0, in its series finale against Kent State University today, May 14, inside Oestrike Stadium.

Freshman Sam Reed (Carmel, Ind.-Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) (2-3) got the ball to start for Eastern Michigan (23-26, 9-18 MAC) and took the loss. Despite the setback, the left-hander was stellar. He went eight innings, giving up just one run on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out five. Senior Nick Chittum (Grosse Ile, Mich.-Grosse Ile) was a bright spot for the Eagles as well, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

Senior Glenn Miller (Pentwater, Mich.-Pentwater-Spring Arbor) led the way offensively for the Eagles, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame.

How it Happened
Eastern Michigan did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Eagles went 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the second, when senior Aaron Dolney made it into scoring position with two outs.

Game Notes
» Reed cruised through Kent State batters this afternoon, as the 6-foot-2 freshman tossed a career and EMU season-long 8.0 innings, allowing five hits and one run, while striking out five and walking two. Reed's performance today makes him the only Eastern pitcher to go eight innings, beating his previous best mark of 7.2 frames at the University of Akron, April 4. Reed is just one of two pitchers to hold Kent State scoreless through seven innings this season.
» Eastern dropped today's game to the Golden Flashes, 1-0. This marks the first time the Green and White have lost a 1-0 contest since they fell short versus Central Michigan University, May 22, 2021. Since the 2021 season, the Eagles are 6-1 when allowing just one run.
» Miller, Kyle Schroedle (Redding, Calif.-University Prep-Crown College), and Aaron Dolney (Plymouth, Mich.-Detroit Country Day-Nebraska-Hillsborough C.C.) all recorded a single in today's contest. This marks Miller's 55th hit of the season, Schroedle's 32nd, and Dolney's 39th.
» After scoring a run in the top of the first inning, Eastern Michigan held Kent State scoreless for the remainder of the game (eight consecutive innings) for the second time this season, as Central Michigan also held the Golden Flashes scoreless for eighth straight innings, earlier this season, March 26.

Historical Notes
» Sunday afternoon's contest marked the 128th all-time meeting between the Eagles and Golden Flashes, after today's result, the Green and White hold a 48-81 record when facing Kent State.
» Reed is the first Eastern Michigan pitcher to go eight innings into a start since former Eagles Justin Meis and Luke McGuire each accomplished the feat one time in the 2021 season, respectively. Meis tossed eight in a 4-1 loss to Mississippi State University, March 13, 2021, while McGuire did so versus Ohio University, April 10, 2021.

The Eagles will stay home in Ypsilanti to host the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies this Tuesday, May 16, at 6p.m.
