The Eastern Michigan University rowing team continued its 2023 season with a showing at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships today, May 12, on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Eastern has competed as an affiliate member of the CAA since the beginning of the 2012-13 season. Overall, the Eagles finished seventh in the team standings.

Eastern was one of eight teams to hit the water for today's competition, facing off against the likes of the University of Connecticut, University of Delaware, Drexel University,  Monmouth University, Northeastern University, UC San Diego, and Villanova University.

Northeastern had the strongest showing of any team, claiming victories in each major race to pick up its ninth consecutive CAA crown. EMU's best finish was sixth, in the Second Varsity Eight race. The Green and White crossed the finish line in 8:13.272 in that event.

Individually, sophomore Lily Wilhelm (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville-Butler) was honored as a First Team All-CAA selection. It is the first such honor for the second-year Eagle. She is the 10th Eastern Michigan rower in program history to earn All-CAA status.

Eastern's First Varsity Eight, Third Varsity Eight, and First Varsity Four boats each finished in seventh place, respectively. The First Varsity Eight boat raced incredibly competitively, finishing less than one second behind UC San Diego's pace, and just 12 seconds off a top-four finish.

The Third Varsity Eight unit was nine seconds away from a fifth-place showing, while the First Varsity Four also finished in competitive fashion.

"Our results today did not meet our goals from the beginning of the year," said Head Coach Kemp Savage. "Having gone through a lot of hardships, I am proud of how hard we worked to fight through the last half of the year, but still, we came up short today. We are going to refocus, plan, prepare, and commit to having our results reflect our goals next season."
