YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team returns to action Friday, April 7, when it welcomes Northern Illinois University to Ypsilanti for a match at the Chippewa Club. First serve is set for 1 p.m.

Eastern Michigan (5-5, 2-3 MAC) will look to even its Mid-American Conference record against the Huskies, as the Eagles have won two of their last three games against league foes. The Green and White fell to Ball State, 5-2, in its most recent match, April 2.

Northern Illinois (11-12, 1-4 MAC) is without a MAC victory in its last four tries after beating Bowling Green State University, 6-1, to open conference play, March 19.
Friday's matchup is the first of two between the Eagles and Huskies. The teams will play one week following tomorrow's matchup, April 14, in DeKalb, Ill.

LAST TIME OUT: EMU battled, but came up short in a 5-2 loss at the hands of Ball State.

EMU played tight in all three doubles positions, but fell, 7-5, at both the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively. The No. 2 spot continued to be a bright spot for the Eagles, as the duo of Daniella Shved (Holon, Isreal-ORT Holon) and Wanyi Zhang  (Bejing, China-Crnjanski Gimnzija (Serbia)) fought to secure a 6-4 victory.

Zhang stayed energized as play moved to singles, where she picked up a big point at the No. 3 slot. After falling, 6-3, in the first set, Zhang was able to swing the momentum, winning 6-3, and 6-4 in the second and third sets, respectively, to pick up the win.

Eastern got its second point at the No. 5 spot, as Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) picked up a straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-4.

Despite EMU's efforts in singles, the Cardinals ultimately prevailed, 5-2.
