Re-Watch the Game.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --
The Eastern Michigan University baseball struggled to score, leaving 11 on base in a 10-4 loss at the hands of the University of Toledo Rockets Friday, April 21.

Senior Thomas House (Ross, Ohio-Ross) (1-3) started and took the loss on the mound for Eastern Michigan (16-20, 6-13 MAC ). Senior Nick Chittum (Grosse Ile, Mich.-Grosse Ile) was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going six innings, surrendering one run on four hits, walking one and striking out six.

In the batter's box, the Eagles were paced by sophomore Josh Kross (Brunswick, Ohio-Brunswick-Toledo), who went 2-for-5 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Graduate student Matt Kirk (Milford, Ohio-Milford-Cypress-Toledo) put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI. Senior Taylor Hopkins (Mason, Ohio-Archbishop Moeller) also helped out for Eastern Michigan, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate.

How it Happened
Trailing 10-0, the Eagles first put runs on the board in the ninth inning. Eastern Michigan's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Kross. The Eagles were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

Game Notes
» Hopkins recorded two hits Friday night for Eastern Michigan. It is the 14th multi-hit outing this season for the shortstop.
» Chittum pitched a career-long six innings in today's contest. The junior right hander allowed just four hits and gave up one earned run in his 10th appearance of the season. On top of recording a career high, the Grosse Ile, Mich. native's one earned run is the least amount given up by the junior in an outing longer than 5.2 innings in his Eastern Michigan career.
» Kross recorded Eastern's first extra base hit of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, a double into right field. The double was Kross' 10th of the year, making himself, Kirk and Glenn Miller (Pentwater, Mich.-Pentwater-Spring Arbor) the only Eagle batters to reach the double-digit mark in doubles in the 2023 campaign. In addition, Kross had an RBI single that scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. This brings the switch hitter's RBI total to 46 for the 2023 regular-season, marking his 14th performance with multiple hits. Lastly, finishing the day 2-for-5 at the plate, Kross tallied his 20th multi-hit game of the season.
» Logan Milene (Rochester Minn.-Rochester Century-North Iowa Area C.C.) smoked a double down the right field line in the bottom of the ninth inning for his fourth double of his Eastern Michigan career.
» Cooper Vance (New Waterford, Ohio-Mohawk) drew the second walk of his collegiate career in the bottom of the ninth inning. The walk sent home Blake McRae (Armada, Mich.-Romeo-Lansing C.C.) for the first RBI in Vance's career.
» Kirk walked twice in Friday night's contest, marking the fifth time this season the graduate student has been issued multiple walks.
» Jad Oestrike (Tomball, Texas.-Tomball Memorial) recorded a walk in the bottom of the ninth inning for Eastern Michigan, along with scoring a run. The walk and run scored was the first for the grandson of legendary Eastern Michigan Head Coach Ron Oestrike

Historical Notes
» Friday night's meeting between the Rockets and Eagles was the 171st all-time meeting. Eastern Michigan holds a 29-game advantage (100-71) in the all-time series between the Eagles and Rockets.
