The Eagles picked up both points in the singles lineup
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team battled, but came up short in a 5-2 loss at the hands of Ball State University today, April 2, inside the Chippewa Club.
The setback is Eastern Michigan's (5-5, 2-3 MAC) first in a trio of matches and ends the Eagles' win streak at two matches. Ball State (15-3, 4-1 MAC) moves to an impressive 4-1 mark in conference play with its victory.
How it Happened
EMU played tight in all three doubles positions, but fell, 7-5, at both the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively. The No. 2 spot continues to be a bright spot for the Eagles, as the duo of Daniella Shved (Holon, Isreal-ORT Holon) and Wanyi Zhang (Bejing, China-Crnjanski Gimnzija (Serbia)) fought to secure a 6-4 victory.
Zhang stayed energized as play moved to singles, where she picked up a big point at the No. 3 slot. After falling, 6-3, in the first set, Zhang was able to swing the momentum, winning 6-3, and 6-4 in the second and third sets, respectively, to pick up the win.
Eastern got its second point at the No. 5 spot, as Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) picked up a straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-4.
Despite EMU's efforts in singles, the Cardinals ultimately prevailed, 5-2.
