YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) —
The 2022 Eastern Michigan University football team, along with its coaches, and support staff, was honored Friday, April 14, with a Famous Idaho Potato Bowl championship ring ceremony inside Rynearson Stadium.

The event, which took place before the team's annual spring game, was open to families, friends, and incoming 2023 signees.

Eastern Michigan defeated San Jose State University, 41-27, in the 2022 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, which was played Dec. 20 in Boise, Idaho. It marked just the second postseason bowl game win in program history, and the first for the team since 1987, when it defeated the same SJSU team in the California Bowl. The Eagles finished the season with nine wins, the second-most in program history.

In the midst of one of the most successful runs in program history, Eastern Michigan has made a bowl game appearance five times since 2016, a number that ties for the most by any team in the Mid-American Conference. Additionally, the team has now played in bowl games in four consecutive seasons (excluding the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign) for the first time in school history, while 13 EMU student-athletes became the first in program history to be part of four postseason bowl games in their respective careers.

"It is so incredible to bring our team, staff, and everyone who was involved with last year's team back to celebrate this moment," said EMU Head Coach Chris Creighton. "This is a special, special day, and this is just the start of where we want to go."

The ceremony began with opening remarks, and the playing of a highlight video from the Potato Bowl Victory. Following the video, Creighton took to the stage to deliver remarks. A surprise for those in attendance, Creighton also took a moment to honor 2022 EMU senior Jose Ramirez as the newest inductee to Eastern's Ring of Honor, which is displayed along the top of both the home and visiting stands at Rynearson Stadium.

To be included in the Ring of Honor, the individual must have been awarded All-American status by a major publication and/or played in an official National Football League game. Ramirez, who is a 2023 NFL draft hopeful, earned All-America status from multiple major publications (Associated Press, Walter Camp Football Foundation, Sporting News) after a dominant season. The Lake Alfred, Fla. native was among the nation's best pass rushers, and led the country in sacks.

Ramirez is the 53rd Eastern Michigan player to earn the honor.

Creighton then spoke on the journey of the 2022 team, and all of those who worked to accomplish the feat of capturing a share of the Mid-American Conference West Division Crown, a Michigan MAC championship, and the bowl game victory.

Following Creighton's words, members of the 2022 team, staff, and coaches were invited on stage to receive their rings.
