The Eagles forced three third sets, but ultimately came up short against the Rockets

TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team forced third sets in three matches, but ultimately came up short, 7-0, to the University of Toledo today, March 18, at Twos Athletic Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Eastern Michigan (3-3, 0-1 MAC) dropped its first match in its last four attempts with today's result, while Toledo (10-3, 1-0 MAC) notched its 10th victory of the young campaign.

How it Happened
The match started with doubles play, where Toledo was able to secure two of the three matches to pick up the match's doubles point. The duo of  Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) and  Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) showed signs of success against the Rockets, picking up three games in the first set at the No. 2 doubles posting. Their match went unfinished.

Eastern continued to battle in its singles matches, forcing third sets at three positions (No. 2, No. 4, No. 6). Despite third-set efforts from Vichare, Daniella Shved (Holon, Isreal-ORT Holon) and Linda Eloundou Nga (Yaounde, Cameroon-Augustine Meyou-New Mexico Military Institute), it was the Rockets who were able to claim all six singles points in the competition, and finish of the 7-0 victory.

Match Notes
» Eastern Michigan forced third sets in three singles matches. That number is the most for the Eagles in any setback this season. In EMU's previous setbacks, they forced third sets in just two matches, respectively.

Historical Notes
» EMU has dropped three straight matches against the Rockets, dating back to the 2021 campaign. Despite the setback in today's match, the Eagles are an even 13-13 against Toledo since the 1999 campaign. Additionally, seven of those EMU wins have come in the Glass City, as the road team.

Up Next
Eastern Michigan returns to action Friday, March 24, when it hosts Western Michigan University inside the Chippewa Club. EMU will look to remain perfect in home matches this season when the two in-state rivals compete at 1 p.m.
