YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University tennis team, in front of a large home crowd, dominated Youngstown State University, 5-2, en route to its first win of the 2023 season today, Feb. 18, inside the Chippewa Club.

The win goes down as the first in the Steve Schram Era, and is the first for Eastern Michigan (1-2, 0-0 MAC) this season. Meanwhile, Youngstown State (2-6, 0-0 Horizon) dropped its sixth contest of the young campaign.

Eastern Michigan picked up all five of its points in singles, winning at all but the No. 3 position. For Eastern Michigan it was the first win for the program since April 22, 2022, when it defeated Western Michigan University, 4-3.

Additionally, the win is the 29th consecutive home victory for Schram, an impressive streak that dates back to 2018-19, when he was the Head Coach at the University of Southern Mississippi. Schram went an incredible 28-0 at home during his recent stint in that role (2018-2022).

How it Happened
The match started with doubles, where Eastern Michigan picked up one of the three matches. It was the team of Daniella Shved (Holon, Isreal-ORT Holon) and Wanyi Zhang (Bejing, China-Crnjanski Gimnzija (Serbia)) that earned the victory. They defeated Lili Minich and Line Greyline of Youngstown State, 6-3, at the No. 2 position.

Moving to singles, Eastern Michigan was dominant. Andrea Quiroz (Lima, Peru-La Molina 1278-Alcorn State) playing in the No. 1 slot, won a three-set thriller (6-0, 6-7, 1-0 (10-6)). She used a third-set tiebreaker to finish off Minich. In the No. 2 spot, Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) picked up a straight-set victory (6-3, 7-6 (7-4)), while Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) cruised to a win at the No. 4 position (6-4, 6-3).

Eastern Michigan also brought home wins at the No. 4 and 5 positions, respectively. Shved needed just 15 games to take care of YSU's Line Greyline, as she won 6-0, 6-3. Meanwhile, Linda Eloundou Nga (Yaounde, Cameroon-Augustine Meyou-New Mexico Military Institute) used a late push to secure a straight-set, 6-3, 7-5 victory despite a determined effort from Maria Oliveira in the sixth position.

Match Notes
