Tennis Picks up Second Straight Victory, 4-0, Over UIC

The Eagles blanked the Flames en route to evening their record at 2-2
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team picked up its second consecutive victory, this time with a 4-0 decision over the University of Illinois-Chicago, Friday, March 10 inside the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti.
The win gives EMU (2-2, 0-0 MAC) two straight victories for the first time since the 2021 season, when the Eagles won four in a row between March 27-April 1.
Additionally, the win is the 30th consecutive home victory for Head Coach Steve Schram, an impressive streak that dates back to 2018-19, when he was the Head Coach at the University of Southern Mississippi. Schram went an incredible 28-0 at home during his recent stint in that role (2018-2022), and is now 2-0 as the EMU head man.
How it Happened
The match began with doubles, where Eastern Michigan wasted no time getting off to a fast start. The No. 1 pairing of Wanyi Zhang (Bejing, China-Crnjanski Gimnzija (Serbia)) and Daniella Shved (Holon, Isreal-ORT Holon) cruised to a 6-2 victory, staying undefeated on the young season as the pairing moved to 4-0.
In the No. 2 spot, Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) and Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) were equally as dominant, earning a 6-2 victory and securing EMU's doubles point.
Moving to singles, EMU picked up three quick victories to secure the win. Despite playing a full lineup of six matches on the singles side, just three were scored en route to EMU collecting the four points needed to win the match.
Vichare used momentum for her doubles success to pick up Eastern's first singles point at the No. 2 spot. She cruised to a 6-3, 6-2, straight-set victory. Meanwhile, Shved was impressive at the No. 4 spot, where she needed just 16 total games to secure a quick, 6-2, 6-2 victory. The final singles point came at the No. 5 position. There, it was Brichackova who put forth a valiant fight to secure a 6-3, 7-6 (4-0) win and give Eastern the clean sweep.

» Schram has now won 30 consecutive home matches across two different head coaching positions. His last home loss as a head coach came in the spring of 2016, a 6-3 setback to No. 2 Barry University while he was the head coach at Nova Southeastern University.
» Brichackova tallied her third win of the season with her victory at the No. 5 singles position. After dropping 13 games in her first match of the season (two sets), Jan. 29 at Cleveland State University, Brichackova has elevated her game immensely. In her last six sets of play, she has surrendered just 18 total games.
» Shved remains perfect on the season after picking up a win in the No. 4 spot. She is now 3-0 after earning a win over Cleveland State, Jan. 29, and at Chicago State, Feb. 18.
» The doubles team of Zhang and Shved are now 4-0 on the season, winning a match in each of EMU's outings this season. The duo was named the Mid-American Conference Doubles Team of the Week following their performance at Chicago State, Feb. 10.
» Eastern improved its overall team record to 14-7 in singles this season after picking up three victories over the Flames. Overall, four different Eagles have earned multiple singles victories this season, while two, Shved and Vichare, are undefeated with a 3-0 record.
