Football Lands 18 on Academic All-MAC Team

Howie and Knue each honored for the fourth time in their careers
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University football team placed 18 student-athletes on the 2023 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Football Team, the conference office announced today, Dec. 22. A total of 184 student-athletes from around the conference earned the distinction.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
The Eagles honored included Steve Bird (Phoenix, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor), Blake Daniels (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North/Davenport), Nick Devereaux (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice/Davenport), Dimitri Douglas (Saline, Mich./Saline/Michigan State), Samson Evans (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge/Iowa), Jere Getzinger (West Branch, Mich./Ogemaw Heights), C.J. Horton (Fort Scott, Kan./Fort Scott/Kansas State/Iowa Western), Alex Howie (Canton, Mich./Salem), Kaiden Keefe (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Valor Christian), Ryan Kingston (South Bend, Ind./Riley), Tanner Knue (Mason, Ohio/Mason), Carson Lee (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek/Colorado), Josh McCarty (Troy, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's), Alex Merritt (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller), Max Reese (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick), Owen Snively (Fremont, N.H./Tilton/Colorado State), Mitchell Tomasek (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne), and Daniel Warnsman (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman).
Both Howie and Knue earned their fourth academic honor from the conference after being selected following the 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 seasons while Bird, Douglas, Evans, and Getzinger each earned their third awards. Keefe, McCarty, Tomasek, and Warnsman each earned their second accolade after being named to the list last year.
Eastern is set to play in the 68 Ventures Bowl, Saturday, Dec. 23, when it takes on the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Ala., in the program's seventh all-time bowl appearance and third in a row. EMU is tied with Toledo and Ohio for the most bowl appearances at six in the MAC since 2016 and will look to make history as a win over the Jaguars would give the Eagles back-to-back bowl victories for the first time in program history.
