Swim Completes Day One of Denison Invitational

GRANVILLE, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swim and dive team competed in the first of three days at the Denison Invitational, hosted by Denison University inside the Trumbull Aquatic Center. As it currently stands, EMU is in fourth-place (303.5 points) with two days of competition remaining.
"It was a solid first session. The girls are starting to settle into their races more which was evident tonight with great swims," said Head Swimming Coach Derek Perkins.
Eastern started the evening off strong with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay finals. The 'A' team, consisting of Marlee Christie (Seminole, Fla./Seminole), Katie Shoen (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy), Lucy Noble (Flagler Beach, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast), and Kiersten Russell (Clinton, Mich./Saline) collectively swam Eastern's fastest time of the season in the event in 1:33.24.
Next Russell and Ali Kudo (Guelph, Ontario/John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational) teamed up in the 500y freestyle to secure 29 points for the Green and White, as Russell finished 15th in 5:03.43 while Kudo slotted 16th in 5:04.02.
The Eagles would collect 56 points in the 200 IM finals, courtesy of Abby Szadorski (Oswego, Ill./Oswego East) (10th – 2:05.85), Taylor Harris (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert/Bowling Green State) (12th – 2:06.75), and Tristen Mina (Santa Clara, Calif./The King's Academy) (14th – 2:07.31). The performance by Mina goes down as a personal-best while Szadorski's marks the Eagles' fastest time in the event this season.
Four Eagles made scratches in the 50y freestyle finals, with Shoen claiming EMU's top spot, finishing second in a season-best 23.39, followed by Christie in seventh in 23.70, Noble in 11th in 23.91, and Hannah Hardin (Granville, Ohio/Granville) in 14th in 23.94. Christie and Noble's times mark the fastest of their respective careers.
The night ended with the 400y medley relay, where the EMU "B" team placed fourth in a season-best 3:47.32, raking in 58 points for the Eagles.
