Eagles raced at home in fall for first time since 2009
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University rowing team won all four races in its first fall home race since 2009 as the Eagles raced in varsity and novice fours and eights against the University of Dayton and Adrian College Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Boathouse at Ford Lake.
The Eagles' first varsity four (18:50.6), first varsity eight (17:38.8), first novice four (5:54.3), and first novice eight (19:19.0) all recorded first-place finishes.
EMU also had a pair of second place finishes with the second varsity four (19:22.1) and second varsity eight (19:18.1).
Eastern tallied four first-place finishes for the first time since Apr. 11, 2021 against Dayton.
No team scores were kept and the novice four race was shortened to 1,500 meters due to weather.
EMU was scheduled to host a fall regatta in 2022 but it was canceled due to weather.
POST RACE QUOTES
"We have done a lot of work and really reexamined our baseline this week," Head Coach Kemp Savage said. "It was great to see the results in the execution of the technical changes and the race plan. We were able to really show the speed we are capable of this year."
"We did very well with adjusting to wind conditions and didn't let outside factors affect the races," junior Emma Wyss (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) said. "This was the first home race for many girls so it was very exciting to see them do well and have the home crowd there to cheer us on."
"Last one, best one. That saying kinda described our day," freshman Gabby Charvat (Three Rivers, Mich./Three Rivers) said. "We were a little tense and nervous in the eights but once we got into the fours and made some changes, we did so much better. I am proud of us and though we adapted to the fours well!"
