The duo mark the first time Eastern has sent two players to the NFL Combine

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Former Eastern Michigan University offensive lineman Sidy Sow (Bromont, Quebec-J-H Leclerc-Champlain Lennoxville) and defensive end Jose Ramirez (Lake Alfred, Fla.-Auburndale-Arizona-Riverside City) continue make a splash with scouts leading up to the NFL Draft in Kansas City, Mo., April 27–29.

Both Sow and Ramirez have received invitations to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine, March 3-6. The event is a week-long showcase for college football players to perform physical and mental tests in front of National Football League coaches, general managers, and scouts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The duo mark the first time Eastern has sent two players to the NFL Combine. Furthermore, they are the first EMU players since Maxx Crosby to earn the Combine invite in 2019. Crosby was eventually drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Sow recently took part in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, Jan. 28, at the legendary Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena. More than 200 scouts, player personnel staff, general managers and head coaches from all 32 NFL teams were in attendance at the event to watch live practices, conduct player interviews and review tape.

NFL Draft Bible founder Ric Serritella penned the following statement about Sow. "A popular player amongst NFL scouts, Sow has played himself into a potential draftable grade with his performance here in Pasadena. A five-year starter primarily at left guard, the Quebec native possesses an impressive blend of strength, bend and nastiness. Sow plays physical and does a nice job getting into the second level. He demonstrates excellent footwork and range in his pass protection ability and has experience playing left tackle (2018)."

Meanwhile, Emory Hunt, football analyst with CBS Sports HQ, recently wrote an article with the following statement about Sow's performance in Pasadena. "Sow is also a highly touted CFL prospect, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him taken in one of the top two rounds of their draft. He had an excellent showcase here in Pasadena. I came away mostly impressed with his footwork and overall athleticism."

Sow collected All-MAC honors for the third time in his career in 2022, earning first team honors again after collecting the same accolade a year ago and third-team accolades in 2020. The all-time leader in Eastern Michigan history in games played (56) and games started (54), he will go down as one of the best offensive linemen to don the green and white.

On the field for 949 snaps in 2022, Sow helped the Eagles lead the MAC in red zone offense (93.9%) and third down percentage (44.9), while finishing second in team passing efficiency (137.86). All told, the Bromont, Quebec, native directly allowed just two sacks this season and only six in his distinguished career.

Ramirez will play in the East-West Shrine Bowl, Thursday, Feb. 2, inside Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev.

Currently a fifth-round prospect on PFF's big board, His 28 run stops were a top-10 total among all edge defenders in the nation this year. The Lake Alfred, Fla., native's 90.5 pass-rushing grade was a top-15 mark among that same group.

Sports Illustrated's Bo Marchionte wrote the following statement about Ramirez after the first day of practice at the 2023 Shrine Bowl. "We saw Ramirez several times during his days playing in the MAC. His technique and skill set as a pass rusher were evident. Standing on the field near him, it was apparent that Ramirez was energizing the East defense. Seldom did a positive play by the East defense not have Ramirez vocally supporting his teammates enthusiastically."

One of the most dominant pass rushers in college football, Ramirez finished the 2022 regular season slate on numerous national leaderboards. The MAC's defensive MVP and an All-American via three major publications, he was tied for the nation's lead with 1.00 sacks per game. He finished second in the FBS in total sacks (12.0) and third nationally with 1.6 tackles for loss per contest. He also owns the nation's second-best single-game performance (in terms of sacks) this season. He collected a program-record 4.0 in Eastern's game at Western Michigan University, Oct. 8. That game was one of three multiple-sack performances he issued for EMU this season.

Ramirez was Eastern Michigan's third-leading tackler this season with 66 stops, and led the Eagles in both quarterback hurries (10) and forced fumbles (2).

Ramirez's 12 sacks was an all-time single-season record at EMU. He finished with 20.5 sacks in his career, which places him second all-time in program history. He is only the fourth player since 1998 to record double-digit sacks in a single season for Eastern Michigan.

Additionally, Ramirez had 19.5 TFLs during the 2022 regular season, tied for ninth in school history and the most since multiple-year National Football League veteran and E-Club Hall of Fame inductee Jason Jones recorded the same number in 2007. His 34 career tackles for loss put Ramirez fifth in the EMU record book. He has earned All-MAC status in consecutive seasons.
