EMU Volleyball Announces 2022 Schedule

Slate includes 30 matches, with nine in the George Gervin GameAbove Center
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Darcy Dorton, head coach of the Eastern Michigan University volleyball program, announced the team's 2022 season schedule today, August 9. The slate includes 30 regular season matches with four non-conference tournaments to start.
"This year's non-conference schedule will prepare us for the rigors of Mid-Amercian Conference play " said Dorton. "Each of the first four weekends will feature competition that will challenge us to bring our best and we will need to become comfortable competing on the road. Our first weekend of MAC play will also be our home-opener versus Toledo and I know our student-athletes will be battle-tested and ready to bring their A-game," Dorton finished.
The Eagles enter the season with an all-time overall record of 710-727-16 and an all-time MAC record of 280-362-1. Nine of the 30 regular season matches will be played in the newly named George Gervin GameAbove Center. EMU's 12 non-conference matches will come against opponents from 10 different leagues.
Prior to their first regular season matchup, the Eagles will begin by hosting Ferris State University for an exhibition match Saturday, Aug. 20. The match is set to be played in the George Gervin GameAbove Center starting at 4 p.m.
The Spartans of Michigan State University will host their annual Auto Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational Friday, Aug. 26 and Saturday, Aug. 27 in East Lansing, Mich. The tournament will also showcase the University of Louisiana, and Fairfield University. Friday afternoon will see the Eagles take on Louisiana for the third time in program history at noon before taking on Fairfield at 5 p.m. EMU will face the Spartans for the first time since 2013 Saturday, Aug. 27 at noon.
The team will then travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to compete in an Xavier University-hosted tournament the following weekend. The Eagles compete against Purdue University Fort Wayne Friday, Sept. 2 at 3 p.m. Saturday will see Eastern versus Xavier at 12:30 p.m. before taking on the University of Virginia at 4 p.m.
Next, the green and white will make its way to Chicago, Ill. for a DePaul-hosted tournament including Virginia Tech University, and St. Louis University. The first match for the Eagles will begin Friday, Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. against Virginia Tech, with a matchup versus St. Louis following at 4 p.m. The team will take the floor against DePaul University Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. CT. (Noon ET)
EMU will round out it's non-conference play for the 2022 season in Lynchburg, Va., at the Liberty University Tournament. The first match for the Eagles is set for Friday, Sept. 16 against Radford University at 12 p.m. with Coppin State University following behind at 3 p.m. The final contest before facing MAC members will be against Liberty Saturday, Sept.17, at 3 p.m.
Kicking off their journey to a conference title, as well as their season home opener, the Eagles are set to host the University of Toledo Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. and then again Friday, Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. in the George Gervin GameAbove Center. Eastern currently holds an impressive 61-19 record over the Rockets dating back to 1976, and has won six of the last 10 matchups.
The team then hits the road for two conference matches against the defending MAC Champions of Ball State University. The first game of the weekend will begin Friday, Sept. 30, with the second game following Saturday, Oct. 1. Both matches are set to start at 6 p.m.
The rest of October will see nine conference matches for the Eagles.
EMU will play host to both Ohio University, Oct. 7, and Kent State University, Oct. 8 before traveling to Miami University the following weekend. A midweek road game against Central Michigan University, Oct. 20 separates the week and is set to start at 6 p.m. in the McGuirk Arena. The Eagles return to their nest in time to host Bowling Green State University, Oct. 21-22 at 6 and 4 p.m., respectively.
October will be topped off with a final tri-match including Eastern, the University at Buffalo, and the University of Akron. Friday, Oct. 28 will see the Eagles and the Bulls battle it out at 6 p.m. The Zips will then take their shot at the Eagles Saturday, Oct. 29 at a time that is still to be determined.
The month of November will begin with two road matches in the Celery City of Kalamazoo, Mich. against Western Michigan University Friday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. and again Saturday at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12 will see the Eagles play host to Northern Illinois University before they close out their 2022 regular season with a midweek matchup against the Chippewas, Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m.
