Poeppel will oversee football’s equipment needs in his new role

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Assistant Athletic Director for Equipment, Wayne Smith, has added LT Poeppel to his staff, the department announced today, Aug. 18. Poeppel arrives in Ypsilanti with more than six years of collegiate equipment experience at the Division I level. His most recent position saw him serve as the Director of Equipment Services at New Mexico State University.

"We're excited to add LT to our great staff here at EMU. His experience and knowledge in our industry are notable, and he will do a fantastic job leading our football equipment efforts," said Smith.

Poeppel will serve as the primary equipment liason for the EMU football program, as well as other Olympic sports. He joins Smith and veteran Dominic Velotta to round out Eastern's equipment department.

"I also want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication that Dominic Velotta has put forth during this transition. Dom has been an integral part of our operation since coming to EMU in 2015, where he has served a majority of the time as the main football contact. I am excited to extend new responsibilities to Dominic as we welcome LT and can't thank him enough for all that he does for our staff," offered Smith.

Poeppel  arrives in Ypsilanti after a one-year stint at NMSU.  While with the Aggies, Poeppel managed the full-time and student equipment staff, while also managing the athletic department's apparel and equipment contracts with both Under Armour and Nike, respectively. Additionally, he handled the day-to-day fitting and maintenance of all football protective equipment, while providing full logistical support for all visiting football trams. Poeppel also procured and reconciled all at-once and futures orders for all of New Mexico State's varsity athletics programs.

Before arriving in Las Cruces, he spent two seasons as an equipment manager at Drake University. During his time with the Bulldogs, Poeppel worked with the Drake football and basketball programs. Poeppel came to Drake after spending five years at Eastern Washington University. He began his EWU career as the director of soccer operations (2014-17), before transitioning to the Eagles' assistant equipment manager in September 2017. In addition to his role with Eastern Washington, Poeppel also spent time working as the Director of Soccer Tournaments for the Big Sky Conference. In his role with the Big Sky, he was tasked with editing and compiling video as well coordinating with conference officials to support the facilities operations of the tournament and procure supplies.

A Pasco, Wash. native, Poeppel earned his undergraduate degree in applied developmental psychology from Eastern Washington in 2015 before completing his master's in public administration at EWU in 2017.
